Hey Palmetto Parents,

It was a very busy week and weekend here in Charleston. The US Navy’s Blue Angels flew by for practice during the week. Still can’t figure out if they actually flew by on Saturday. Anyone know?

We also had Nick Jonas in Charleston last weekend. He came out during Brandon Lake’s concert to sing their newest song together. Brandon Lake is a local legend who was born, raised, and now sings here! Did anyone get to see his concert in the rain?

Speaking of concerts, let’s get into this week’s newsletter! We have a list of $30 concerts for you and yours to attend. Follow the link for even bigger artists outside of the Charleston area. Then we have a fun event for a new local business that is all about clay. If you are in need of a quick bagel and coffee, look no further then the local (to Florida) chain, Jeff’s Bagel Run.

Then we end this week’s newsletter with 5 practical tips for dads on how to celebrate mom properly but reasonably this Mother’s Day Weekend!

Enjoy!

TO DO

Summer of Live $30 Tickets

If you’ve been looking for an easy, fun way to plan a night out (or a family memory-maker), this is it. Live Nation is bringing back its Summer of Live ticket deal, and for a limited time you can grab select concert tickets for just $30. The catch? This offer only runs through May 7, so it’s one of those “don’t wait” kind of opportunities.

And the lineup? It’s a good one.

Right here in Charleston at Credit One Stadium, you’ll find a mix of artists that work for date nights, girls’ nights, and even family-friendly outings depending on your crew such as MGK, Mt. Joy and the Goo Goo Dolls plus many more!

There’s something special about summer concerts in Charleston. The warm evenings, the energy of the crowd, and the open-air feel at Credit One Stadium just make it a whole experience, not just a show. It’s the kind of outing that feels like a mini vacation without ever leaving town.

For parents, this is one of those rare activities that can flex to whatever you need. Bring the kids along for a laid-back night of live music (so many families loved doing this for concerts like Brandon Lake), or turn it into a much-needed night out with your spouse or friends. Either way, it’s a chance to step out of the usual routine and do something memorable.

And honestly, there’s no better season for it. Summer and live music just go hand in hand. School schedules loosen up, the days are longer, and it finally feels like there’s space to enjoy nights out again.

If concerts have been on your “we should do that sometime” list, this is your sign to actually make it happen. A $30 ticket makes it a lot easier to say yes.

Grab your seats, pick your show, and make a night of it. Summer memories are waiting.

EVENT

Palmetto Clayground Grand Opening

Right in the middle of Charleston, and perfectly placed between getting some shopping done at Tanger Outlets Charleston, there’s a brand new spot to check out this weekend. Whether you’re planning a moms’ night out or looking for something special to do with your kids, the grand opening of Palmetto Clayground is worth adding to your plans. Palmetto Clayground is a paint your own pottery, canvas painting, and glass fusion studio that’s been around in the area (previously located in Northwoods Mall) for a while. It’s a dearly loved space and now they have moved to a bigger, better spot!

The excitement has been building, and they couldn’t wait any longer. Palmetto Clayground is officially opening early on Friday, May 8, just in time for Mother’s Day weekend.

The celebration kicks off with a ribbon cutting at 12 pm, hosted by Tanger, and everyone is invited to join. After the ceremony, the studio will open for walk ins, so you can pop in, get creative, and experience the space for yourself.

You’ll find Palmetto Clayground conveniently located inside Tanger next door to Sephora and across from Claire's and River Street Sweets, making it an easy stop while you’re already out and about.

If you’ve been looking for something different to do this weekend, this is one of those events that checks all the boxes. It’s creative, flexible, and fun whether you go solo, with friends, or bring the kids along. And with Mother’s Day right around the corner, it’s a simple way to make the weekend feel a little more special.

RESTAURANT

Jeff’s Bagel Run

If you’ve driven around town lately, you may have noticed the buzz around Jeff's Bagel Run popping up in the Charleston area. Yes, it’s a chain, but we can’t hate on chain restaurants when they’re this good and this convenient.

The story behind Jeff’s Bagel Run is one parents will appreciate. After moving to Central Florida in 2016, Jeff and Danielle Perera missed the authentic New York style bagels Danielle grew up with. When Jeff was laid off in 2019, what could have been a stressful setback turned into something unexpectedly special. With Jeff baking and Danielle taste testing, they set out to perfect their own bagel recipe.

During the pandemic, Jeff started what they called a “bagel run,” delivering fresh bagels door to door to friends, neighbors, and local businesses. Demand exploded almost overnight. What began as a home kitchen hustle quickly grew into a full fledged business, leading to their first storefront in Ocoee, Florida in 2021. Danielle even left her corporate job to join Jeff “full bagel,” and together they created the warm, community driven brand that’s now expanding across multiple locations, including right here in the Lowcountry.

And here’s where it really becomes a parent win. Many Jeff's Bagel Run locations offer a drive thru. That alone earns major points when you’re juggling school drop offs, errands, or a baby who may or may not fall asleep the second you hit the road. It’s an easy grab and go option for breakfast or lunch, especially since they’re open from 6:30 am to 2 pm.

Beyond convenience, the menu is flexible enough to keep everyone happy. You can keep it simple with a classic bagel and cream cheese, perfect for keeping your kids fueled so they don’t crash mid morning or mid meltdown. And don’t skip the drinks, their coffee and iced coffee options are just as good and make it an easy one stop shop for parents who need a little boost.

If you’re looking to try it out, here are a few nearby spots:
• Mount Pleasant: 1710 Shoremeade Rd.
• Isle of Palms: 1400 Palm Blvd.
• Clements Ferry: 1721 Clements Ferry Rd., Unit 104
• Johns Island (Bees Ferry): 1180 Bees Ferry Rd., Unit 106

Bottom line, whether you’re in it for the nostalgia of a true New York style bagel or just need a reliable, quick option between activities, Jeff’s Bagel Run is worth adding to your regular rotation.

Five Mother’s Day Tips for Dad

Let’s be real, in the season of young kids, Mother’s Day can feel like it has big expectations and small moments that don’t always match the Pinterest version. The good news is that moms usually don’t need big, just thoughtful and planned.

Here are five things that actually land well.

1. Coffee in bed (iced if possible)

An iced coffee brought to mom early, without her asking, is basically gold. It starts the day feeling seen and sets everything off on a better foot.

2. Dad runs the “how to clean” training

Have dad sit with the kids and actually teach them how to clean, especially in spaces like bathrooms or bedrooms. Because sometimes sending kids to clean things just makes it worse. This turns it into a real skill-building moment instead of a redo for mom later.

3. A mani pedi or quiet time on Saturday

Don’t wait until Sunday. Book something for mom ahead of time or give her a calm break on Saturday so Mother’s Day isn’t the first moment of rest, it’s the continuation of it.

4. A moms’ night out dinner

Plan a dinner with her mom friends and handle everything. She just shows up and enjoys adult conversation with people who understand this stage of life.

5. A Simple Kids Video

Have dad do a short, funny interview with the kids about mom and turn it into a quick video. It doesn’t have to be perfect. These end up being the keepsake she actually re-watches later.

A quick note that matters

Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be big to be good. Aim for a couple small wins: an early coffee, one planned break, and something sweet from the kids.

And the biggest tip: have a plan by Saturday morning and make sure she knows it. Surprise chaos is not the goal here, clarity is.

See you next time!

Love,

Jenna
